This rather large piece has been years and years in the making, not in the turning but in the growing. Elm trees, like oaks, do not grow fast. The grain has a very identifiable, striking, strong grain pattern. The lighter grows during the summer when the tree feeds in earnest. Then during the winter the wood turns its energy into a tighter grain density to give strength to withstand storms. We also go through seasons which may seem slower but are growing in us strength for storms. To enhance this urn further, we have inlaid two rings of natural paua. This product has been carefully finished in environmentally friendly natural oils and waxes.
