Tasmanian blackwood has blond, softer sapwood; the damp, growing section of the tree. But its strength is when the nutrient-rich sapwood is converted to darker heartwood. Here the contrast is highlighted with a curve of decoration. Like the trials of youth that bring us to the maturity of adulthood, as the tree ages it becomes stronger and stronger. The delicate finial, a finishing touch, on top of the lid, is made of ancient kauri and all of the product has been carefully finished in environmentally friendly natural oils and waxes.
